New from Manglaze!!

While I'm on my Manglaze kick, I thought I'd share their newest colors!

This is Blue/ Fuck off and Dye (yeah I know). Anyway, It's obviously not blue, gotta love the humor of Manglaze. It's a hot pink, has some of that signature shimmer and is completely matte. Very cool.

This is Royal Matterimoaning! Even Manglaze celebrated the royal wedding by creating this royal blue polish. Love the name, love the color, love the humor. Love it.

These are available online on their website. If you're a fan like I am, I suggest following them on facebook. They post new stuff all the time, and you find out first from the source!

Tips on applying eyeshadow

Eyeshadow look great and can change your look dramatically. However, it must be applied correctly or it will look like a hot mess.

Your eyeshadow should not be extended past the end of your eyebrows. If you extend it further your eye will look droopy. When you are done applying the eyeshadow take a sponge and wipe off any excess eye shadow.  In the diagram above, you see that the eyeshadow stops where her eyebrows do. When your done the eyeshadow should end in an upward angle in the outer corner of the eye.

Another thing you will want to avoid is extending the eyeshadow too high. You cannot apply eyeshadow all the way to your eyebrows. Just go a little above your crease with the dark eyeshadow. Then use a natural matte color to highlight under your eyebrows.

Also make sure that when you apply your eyeshadow, both eyes are even. I recommend applying each color to both eyes, instead of doing one eye completely then the other. This will help you apply the eyeshadow evenly.

If you are older or have wrinkles you will want to avoid using shimmer because they will make the wrinkles pop out even more. Instead use matte or satin finishes.

If you have dark circles, use a concealer to cover them before you apply eyeshadow.

I can't stress how important blending is. You can have the best eyeshadow, most flattering colors, yet if they are not blended, it will not look very nice. Invest in a soft eyeshadow brush to blend. This will be very worth it. Apply the darker color at the crease then blend like a  car windshield. Try not to go too high. And if you want the color darker just keep applying at the crease and blending, do not apply it above the crease.

Manglaze Top Coats!!

Finally! Yesterday I received my Manglaze top coats!! Woohoo!!

This is Hot Mess, it's their bling top coat. Its completely matte, but has a TON of glitter. It's kind of amazing. I wanted to show you all the  awesome art work (even though it's a little hard to see) that goes onto every bottle, these are even numbered! I felt special.

This is Matte-Astrophe, the regular matte top coat. It's really awesome, literally takes a second to
matte-ifiy everything.

Here I wanted to compare Matte-Astrophe, Hot Mess and the regular polish that I used.

Left to right:
1 coat Nicole by OPI Razzle Dazzle and a coat of Hot Mess
2 coats Milani Charmed
2 coats Milani Charmed and a coat of Matte-Astrophe
(same as above)

I used Milani Charmed that came out a while ago for their halloween collection. It was a bunch of black based polishes with different glitters. There was blue and red and purple, but this one has silver glitter.

The top coats are amazing, it only takes a few seconds for everything to become matte. The application is super smooth, even smoother than some matte polishes. Manglaze has really perfected their craft. It's impressive. They are totally worth it, especially if you like matte polishes, I say its better to get a matte top coat than a matte polish. With a top coat you can make ANY polish matte.. endless possibilities!! I love it. Awesome. I'll definitely have more swatches to show you soon!

Until next time,

Mixture urbaine 2011

Eh quoi, pas de mixture urbaine en 2011 ?A défaut pourquoi pas un week-end méditatif sur le thème "Réfléchir nuit gravement au système" ?

Nail Art Options

When thinking about nail art, most people don't realize how many options there are, but there are SO many! I'm sure some people like to have their nails just one color, but others need some options (like myself). So, I'm going to go through some different options for jazzing up our nails!

1. Nail Art Pens/ Polishes

So, these are pretty simple to understand. They come in a variety of colors and are made for detailing.

On the top are the Sally Hansen nail art pens that came out a few years ago. They're pretty interesting. After you use them, you need to do a top coat of they will actually wash off, which is super strange. They run about $6-7 and you can find them anywhere.

On the bottom, are LA Colors nail art polishes. You can see that the brushes are thin and pointed and they come in a variety of colors. There are lots of brands that have these kinds of polishes, they're also widely available. I actually haven't seen the LA Colors in stores, but I saw another brand and each one was $2.99

2. Nail Stickers

Also super simple to use, nail stickers are a great quick fix when adding to nails. There's no drying time or really any effort at all. You can find tons of these everywhere and pretty much any kind you want. These are really easy and are great for kids (and adults!).

I really love these, I might have to find them lol

3. Rhinestones

Ahh, rhinestones. I do love sparkly things.

You can get rhinestones 2 ways: stick-on or not stick-on. The sticky backed ones come in sticker form, while the other ones come just like you see here
<------

They come in all different shapes and sizes and colors and are relatively easy. Obviously, ones with sticky backs are like stickers and therefore easy to adhere.

4. Stamping

Probably my favorite way to decorate my nails. This picture is of a Konad stamping set, but other companies do make these types of plates, people tend to call them "fauxnad" plates. Such simpler to use than it seems, it just takes a little practice. When buying Konad specifically, you can usually get bundles that include some polishes, plates and the stamper and scraper. I do recommend getting the Konad polishes because they dry on contact, but any polish will work. Because they dry so fast, you do have to work faster when using them.

You can get Konad on various websites. I use http://www.ocnailart.com/.

One alternative to Konad that is an awesome deal comes from Bundlemonster. It's 21 plates for $17. Yeah, awesome!

5. Nail Polish Strips
This is the newest thing when it comes to decorating nails. They are nail polish strips, no polish necessary. It completely simplifies the way you do nails. I'm not sure how the application is or anything, but I think it's a good idea, especially for people who don't have time to do their nails all the time. You can see that there are TONS of options here, some of them can be achieved with Konad, while others are definitely original.

When going with these I would suggest getting something original, like the butterflies, flowers or lace (my favorite!). Getting a plain color or even glitter wouldn't be worth it in my mind. They're $7-8 and I think you get one use out of each pack.

Happy Easter!!

I actually don't celebrate Easter, but I do have something special for everyone!! My matte top coats from Manglaze still haven't arrived >:(  so I decided to do something completely different from what I originally had in mind. I saw this somewhere and decided to try it myself.

BAM! Rainbow leopard! The base is 2 coats of OPI Alpine Snow, then I used Konad black stamping polish with the leopard print from the M57 plate. To color in all the spots I took various colors that I had and took that wooden cuticle pusher thingy and dipped the pointy part into the polish and just filled in each spot. I thought about buying those nail art polishes with the special brushes, but I honestly just didn't want to spend the money. You don't even need them, the cuticle pusher does the job just fine. After all that was done I did a top coat of Seche Vite and that's it!. Pretty simple, right? A little time consuming, but relatively easy. Oh, you should definitely enlarge the picture to get a better view.

It's pretty festive, kind of goes with Easter. Also I saw the movie African Cats yesterday and it was so amazing. Seriously. This is kind of an homage to that. Go see it. Really.

I hope you all have a Happy Easter / continuation of Passover!

Until next time,

Different Eyeliner Looks

Natural

To achieve a natural look, line only the upper outer with a pencil or liquid eyeliner. Get as close to the eyelashes as you can. Try to keep your hand steady to create a very thin line. Also use a pencil that is sharpened or a thin brush if you are using liquid liner. If you have close set eyes, line them in the outer half or two thirds of the eyelid, this will make them look further apart.

V-Shape

This liner is a bit more dramatic and bold. Use a thin eyeliner, and line the top of the eyelid. Then continue the liner at the lower lashes creating the V shape. Smudge the eyeliner so there are no hard lines.

All Around

Line the upper and lower lid. It is up to you to decide whether you want a thin or thick line. If you have a larger lid then a thick liner can be done. For a smaller lid, it is better to stick to a thin line because a thick one will make your eye look smaller. Make sure to smudge the bottom liner, you can do this with a Q-tip.

Smudged Rocker Look

Quick way for a night out, or to make a statement. Line the top and bottom lid with a thick line. Then smudge with a Q-tip or brush. Smudge the liner to create a cloudy rock star look.

Cat Eye (the wing)

Using liquid liner or gel, line the top and extend upward from the outer corner. Try doing it in short strokes if you are not comfortable doing this. Try to create a triangle in the corner and then fill it in, this will create the "wing".

Some Interesting Finds on Earth Day!

Today I stumbled upon a nail polish brand that I had never heard of before. It's called Ginger + Liz, and if you knew us personally you'd totally get the connection. It's almost ironic. Anyway, it's a non-toxic, vegan nail polish company. Very interesting, I haven't come across one of those before.
Here is a link to their website, where you can see their colors and read about the company and whatnot
http://www.gingerandliz.com/Default.asp
They have a blog and feature pictures from customers, pretty snazzy. And it gets better, I happen to have a coupon code for 25% off for today ONLY! The code is LUVEARTH25. Pretty helpful coupon since each color is $12, pretty steep, but I guess it's worth it for Earth Day.

Also! An Easter present from Illamasqua! 20% off until 9am Tuesday (probably UK time), enter the code EASTER20 at checkout. Andddd if you spend 100 pounds ($165.15) you get a free angled eyeliner brush! Woohoo!

Eye Makeup Solutions for different Eye Shapes

To help identify what your eye shape is, look in the mirror and notice the amount of visible eyelid between your upper lashes and your brow bone.

Small Eyes

Extend the liner beyond the corner if your eye this will make your eyes appear bigger. Use lighter shades or with slight shimmer on the lid this will help open your eyes. Try to keep dark colors to a minimum because they will make your eyes appear smaller than what they are. Also if you line your eye all around they will look smaller. Instead line the bottom rim with white or a skin color liner. Applying mascara to both the bottom and upper lashes will definitely open your eyes. Try adding a couple of layers to add length to your eyelashes.  If you want your eyes to stand out even more, maybe for a special occasion, consider wearing false eyelashes.

Prominent Eyes

Try using medium to deep shades on the upper lid to help minimize their appearance. If you don't want your eyes to look scary big or too prominent avoid light eyeshadows because they will bring them out even more. A thicker eyeliner will help your eyes look less prominent. However, if you want a thick liner yet, soft, try smudging and blend it.

Deep-Set Eyes

Always use paler shades around the eyes to enhance them. You will want to avoid dark colors because this will make yours eyes look sunken in, so it will not flatter them. But you can try light colors with shimmer to make your eyes appear even. You can still you eyeliner. Also use a lot of mascara to bring out your eyelashes.

General Rule
Dark eyeshadows add depth too

Revlon Silver Dollar

A while ago I discovered Mac Studded, an awesome matte silver polish and I was dying over it ever since. Too bad it was limited edition and Ebay gets too pricey for my blood. Luckily for me I found an awesome metallic silver from Revlon, called Silver Dollar. I thought it over and decided it was worth buying and if anything I could always put a matte top coat over it, so it looks more like Studded.

But look at that!! It's matte! And yes, my nails are gone. It upsets me. While I was fixing my shoe, I hit my nail and it cracked! There was no salvaging it.. so they all had to go.

Anyway, back to the polish, the coverage is really awesome. I was thinking it would take at least 2 coats, but its great with just one. Its a smooth application, maybe just a touch on the watery side, but that's Revlon for you. They do have another silver one, a Top Speed one, but I'd say this one is better. the finish is real metallic, its not glossy and I chose to leave off the top coat because I love it so much. The wear is also really good so far.

Here is a picture with flash, just because I thought it looked super coooool. You can see the metallic-ness of it.

This is available everywhere, and there are a lot of polishes like it. Sally Hansen and Orly both have silvers like this, I'm not sure how similar the finish is tho.

5 Eyebrow Mistakes

Eyebrows can have a real big impact on your look. Eyebrows should not underestimated because they can totally change your facial expressions. With the right eyebrow shape, you will look fresher, younger and tidier.

Over Plucking
Over plucking is one of the most frequent problems when it comes to eyebrows. If you make your eyebrows too thin, your eyes will not look defined. Also if you over pluck your eyebrows there is a possibility that some hairs will not grow back. Nowadays the natural fuller eyebrows are trendy.

Drawing your Eyebrows with a Dark Pencil
If you have sparse eyebrows, avoid using dark pencils to fill them in. Never use a black pencil because on one has black eyebrows. Even if your hair is jet black, you should never use a black pencil. Instead use a eyebrow powder with an angled brush. Fill in any gaps and build the color little by little.

Trimming Too Much Of Your Eyebrows
Trimming hairs that are too long is an important step in having nice shaped eyebrows. However, if you trim the hairs too short they can destroy the shape of the eyebrow and can leave you with a bold spot. Instead try cutting one hair at a time. Trim only the hairs that are longer than the rest.

Taking too Much off the Ends
Short eyebrows look less elegant than longer eyebrows. You can find the ideal end of your eyebrow by touching your brow bone.  Wherever the bone ends, should also be the end of your eyebrows.

Tweezing Too Frequently
Grooming your eyebrows every day is too much and it is not necessary. You should tweeze your eyebrows once a week to avoid over plucking them. If you want your eyebrows to look defined and fresh try putting a bit of concealer underneath and on top of the eyebrow. This will make your eyebrows pop and look like you just did them.

Girl on a Budget Part: Where to Buy

Last but not least with all this girl on a budget business, I've decided to give you all some tips on where to buy nail polish and such things.

1. Beware CVS!
CVS claims to have great prices, and they do for some things, but nail polish is definitely not one of those things. This is true for Revlon polish in particular, they have them for Over $6, something like $6.79. That's crazy!!! Most Revlon doesn't go for more than $5 usually, the regular colors are around $3.

2. Discount beauty stores are your friend!
Sometimes it's hard to just hard to believe that you're getting the best price, but sometimes it all in the name. Beauty supply, or beauty discount stores usually do have some of the best prices. Brands like Revlon, Sinful Colors, Sally Hansen, Color Club and even Essie are usually $0.20- $1.00 cheaper than regular stores.

3. Not all drugstores are created equal!
As I said before, you should be weary of CVS, but Duane Reade and Walgreens usually have better prices.

4. Go to the mall!
Beauty stores at the mall are my secret weapon. Stores like Essentials and even some salon/stores at the mall usually have great deals on Essie and OPI. Not only do they sell them regularly for about $6.95, but they also have deals like 3 for $18 and sometimes 3 for $15! Those are by far the best prices that I've seen for those two brands. So, prepare to buy 3!

5. Internet, internet, internet!
There are plenty of places on the internet to get good deals on polish. Ebay and Amazon are likely to have some good deals if you dig around for them. Also, ulta.com/ has some really good deals. They have buy 2 get 1 free, and buy 2 get 2 free deals. I'd say definitely check that out.

Until next time,
The Wicked

Girl on a Budget: Black with Envy vs. Black Pearl

As my girl on a budget fix was coming to an end, I made a discovery and had to add it on. I really wish I had known about this earlier, Revlon has apparently released a dupe, called Black with Envy, for Chanel's Black Pearl.

This is Black with Envy, it's not my picture, but it was the best one I could find. It is very very very similar, except it doesn't have the tealish undertones that Black Pearl has. Its a steely, black metallic and I think its really cool. So, I went out looking for it yesterday and I could not find it. It is amazingly difficult to find, there are some on Ebay, but they range from semi over priced to really over priced. Supposedly this is limited edition, I'll probably try and look for it again just to see if it's still in stores anywhere.

This is Black Pearl, you can see that tealish undertone in this picture, it's almost green. I've been dying for this polish for a really long time, but I haven't had the heart to buy it. Strangely a lot of people seem to think that its really hard to find and try to sell in on Ebay for over $30, but it's actually very readily available in Macy's for $21. Not saying that $21 is cheap, but its better than $30 (and it's even better if you work/ know someone that works at Macy's and can get a discount).

I'll be on the search for Black with Envy this weekend and I'll let you guys know if I have any luck. As the girl on a budget series comes to a close I hope you have all enjoyed it and found it helpful. Also! Tomorrow we will be posting out 100th post! A very exciting day for us, and we hope you'll all come back and check that out and be sure to follow us!!

Until next time,
