Pirates, Orly and an Announcements!

So I ended up adding to my POTC nails because I liked my thumb too much to change it lol.

I did change three of my fingers as you can see.

index: 2 coats OPI You Don't Know Jacques
middle: 1 coat Nicole by OPI Razzle Dazzler
pinky: 2 coats OPI You Don't Know Jacques

Then I used the Kiss nail art pens. I used the white one for the skull and the black one to make my You Don't Know Jacques nails to look like wooden boards (hopefully that was easily figured out).

Next on the agenda.. Orly! So after I took the above picture I decided to redo my nails, and I could not figure out what to do for longest time. I wanted something sparkly but couldn't decide on what. Finally I just decided to do the Milani jewel fx Gold on all my nails, but I left my POTC thumb lol. Of course, as my luck goes, 20 minutes later the doorbell rings and it's my Orly polishes! So I ended up having to swatch all the colors on only my thumb (I'll do full swatches later on).

From the Precious Collection:
Royal Velvet, 3 coats

Ancient Jade, 1 coat

Pure Porcelain, 2 coats

Gilded Coral, 3 coats

 From the Pinup Collection:
Bubbly Bombshell, 3 coats

So these are the introductory swatches and the amount of coats I have on. I will be doing full swatches and I'll go into more detail with each color. But overall all the polishes have really nice formulas, smooth and good coverage. The more frosty/ iridescent colors are on the sheerer side so they do need an extra coat or thicker coats to be completely opaque. The cremes are great and are pretty much opaque in 1 coat, which is pretty impressive. I liked that a lot. Also the range of colors in the collections was great. Also, I thought it was worth mentioning that Bubbly Bombshell was amazingly easy to remove. As you can see, it is a glitter and glitter is usually a pain to remove, but this one removed just like a normal polish. Awesome. Probably one of the best features about this polish, I haven't seen that with a glitter before.

And now for the announcements! Firstly, today is my birthday!! Yay! Just had to get that out there in this special post. Secondly, We are the Wicked will be going on a short 10 day hiatus. We are going to be in Denmark and Sweden so starting tomorrow we won't be posting for 10 days. But there is plenty of other stuff to check out here! We will try our best to find something interesting stuff and possibly post from there, but no promises. Maybe Swedish and Danish trends? Hmm? Possible.

Until next time,

Pirates of the Caribbean!! Skull and Glossbones and Gold!

As you all probably know, today the 4th Pirates of the Caribbean movie came out and in celebration I have done this POTC inspired mani!

Here we have two coats of Skull and Glossbones of three of my finger and about 3 or 4 coats of Milani jewel fx Gold. Skull and Glossbones is an obvious choice and Gold reminds me of gold coins, which ties in to the 1st movie. I like it, it reminds me of pirate treasure and skulls and other piratey things.

Now for the kicker! I got some Kiss nail art pens today (I'll review them another day) and I did my best imitation of the POTC font. The thumb also has two coats of Skull and Glossbones and a top coat and I did the writing over that.

Here is a semi blurry close(r) up of my thumb and the writing. I think I did a pretty good job! Props to me.

So I hope you all go see the movie! I'm not sure if I should do another POTC mani or a birthday one for sunday. Opinions? Suggestions?

Also, I want to remind everyone to follow us, there's a snazzy "follow" button on the right hand side at the top of the page, so totally click on that.

Annndddd, a special announcement, Zoya is having an awesome deal this weekend. Buy anything (besides their color spoons) and get Zoya polish in Caitlin and Dove for free! Yes! 3 for the price of one! Visit http://www.zoya.com/ for that!

Beauty Secrets Revealed!!

When you have any imperfections on your skin try wearing a warm pink lipstick, this will distract people's eyes from noticing any blemishes or scars.

To keep your eyeshadow creasing you need to get rid of all the oil on your lids. In order to do that use a eye primer or pressed powder before applying eyeshadow.

If want an extra glow or a little color on your skin add bronzer to the apples of your cheeks, the bridge of your nose, your hairline and chin.

If you want your lashes to have a curl use a eyelash curler, however make sure your lashes are clean and start at the roots of the lashes.  Then apply the mascara right after this will hold the curl.

If you want bigger eyes stay away from dark colors, instead use nude colors with shimmer or a champagne color.

When applying false eyelashes put a little more glue on the edges to make sure they stay in place. Also, blow on the glue for about 5 seconds before applying them.

If you want your lips to look bigger, dab a shimmery gloss in the middle of your lower lip.

When applying liquid foundation, apply it in small amounts and blend. Do not throw a lot of foundation on your face all at once, it will be hard to blend and will not be very flattering.

Some organization was in order!

This terrible weather we've been having is really putting a damper on my mood. Yesterday I sat around trying to find some inspiration but it was nowhere to be found. It was just coffee and SVU for me. So, I don't have a look to show you today, but I do have something new to show you!

My new box! It was an early birthday present from the boyfriend and I love it so much. I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be a make up box, but it works just as well for nail polish and things. Before I had a bag that I filled with junk and little wooden box that gave me splinters that my dad got me, he had good intentions and I did keep that box lol Anyway, this one has lots of space and smaller compartments, granted as you can see mine is already pretty full.

Originally, I had intended to do some kind of Pirates of the Caribbean related/ themed mani for today but yesterday something came over me and nothing was coming out right. I really need to invest in some nail art brushes or something. I do have one for Friday that I've been thinking about for a new days now, so you can look forward to that!

Also! If you're bored and want to make some easy cash you should join global test market! When you join, you fill our surveys for various companies. These surveys get sent to you by email and each one you complete gets you points. Once you earn 1,000 points you can redeem them for $50! I promise this is not a scam, I've been doing this for about 3 years now. Just click the link below and it will refer you to Global test market. :)

Lip colors to try this Summer!

Bright, bold lip color has been the trend in recent fashion shows and fashion magazines. This summer bold lipstick is the trend. When trying these bold colors remember to keep the rest of the makeup clean and simple.

Orange Lipstick

Now this has been seen on the Gucci runway with bronzed skin. I have to admit not everyone can pull this off, it is a very bold move. However, you could play around with it and see how it looks on you. Last time I went to MAC on the girls had a pinkish orange lipstick and it looked awesome on her. She had fair skin with a winged eyeliner.

Fuchsia Lipstick

Fuchsia lipstick is another alternative to the classic red lipstick. I really love this color and I love the way it looks on cool skin tones. This is a way to create a statement.

Coral Lipstick

Coral is an alternative and safer then the orange or fuchsia lipstick. If you want something less daring then you should try a coral lipstick instead.

Revlon Black with Envy!

Victory! I was in Walgreens completely not looking for this and out of the corner of my eye I saw a whole display for it. My Walgreens must be seriously behind the times, because this has been sold out forever and last time I went looking for it, it was nowhere to be found. If you recall, I did a girl on a budget post about this comparing it to Chanel Black Pearl. So here are the swatches!

(flash)

(no flash and kind of blurry)

Well it is completely overcast here in the Northeast, so taking pictures is a complete pain because nothing looks right in artificial light. The picture with flash is pretty close to how it looks in person, but it looks a little too metallic in the picture. It has a glossy finish like in the bottom picture, but the color is a little more grey rather than blue-toned like it looks there. Also, it almost looks creme in in the bottom picture, but you can see the shimmer in person. So mix the two pictures together in your minds and you'll have it!

Anyway, I have on two coats and a top coat. The formula is smooth and even but the polish is a little sheer, more sheer than I expected. It's fine with two coats but I probably should have done three, oh well. The color is a dark grey with silver almost light blue shimmery flecks or flecky shimmer (find of a mix between flecks and shimmer. It's really nice).

I've been looking at swatches of Black Pearl and they are veryyyyy similar. It was less than $6 so I suggest everyone go and double check Walgreens! ALSO!! While I was there I saw that Sally Hansen has a whole new crackle collection. Confused? Yeah I was too. I had no idea this was coming out, totally caught me off guard. There is blue, white, silver, black, gold, red? and possible something else that I don't remember. I was going to get the white or maybe silver, but I'm planning to get those from OPI so I didn't get them. They were $6 or $8 each ( I don't remember lol) so the price isn't that much cheaper than OPI. One of the bloggers that I follow read my mind and posted a review of the blue and gold this morning. So definitely check that out.

MAC Mineralized Skinfinish in Light

MAC Mineralized Skinfinish
$27.00

Yesterday I was in MAC and picked up the MAC Mineralized Skinfinish in Light, this is the lightest shade they have. I am using this powder to highlight right under my eyes and above the blush. I did not buy it to put on my entire face that would be too light. I wanted a matte highlight and decided to buy this. I used it today and it is perfect. I use MAC Silver Dusk over it, which I did a review on before. MAC Silver Dusk is a translucent shimmer, I love this to highlight.
This is the same thing I bought to contour, just in a lighter shade.

Razzle Dazzler and Galaxy

This was just for fun that I did like a week ago.

So I did a base of one coat of Nicole by OPI Razzle Dazzler, it's obviously my favorite black polish. Really great coverage and dries quickly. Then I decided to try and do a cascading glitter effect. I did one coat of Revlon Galaxy over the whole nail, then every coat after that I started a little lower so there would be more glitter near the tip of my nail. I don't think this was the best glitter to use, so I might have to try again with a better polish. It definitely could be cool.

New Trends!? Temporary Lip Tattoos

While searching the web  I found this very interesting new trends, temporary lip tattoos. I thought it would be cool to share it with you guys. I was very surprised when I came across this. I mean I think the idea is pretty cool, yet it's not something a person would wear. I think it will work wonderfully for photo-shoots, avant-garde makeup or fashion shows.
The tattoos come in different patterns such as cheetah, checkers, zebra print, and they say they will have glitter ones coming soon. I am interested in seeing those, I think those will look pretty cool. On the VioletLips website they run from $9.99- $15.95.  They come in packs of three and are said to last 4 to 8 hours depending on skin or care.

OPI Skull and Glossbones: Matte and Comparison

I've been meaning to try a lighter color with the matte top coat, but I don't have many light colors. I think this might be the only one besides white lol

Left to right:
no top coat
no top coat
matte top coat

It's easier to see if you enlarge the picture. This is the same manicure as the last pot, but I added Matte-Astrophe to 2 fingers. And I have concluded that it looks just like a beige wall! Not that it's a bad thing or anything, it's kinda cool, but it does look like a wall.

I also decided to do a side by side comparison with Brucci Alexandra's "Hot" Gray
Left to right:
Hot Gray
Skull and Glossbones
Hot Gray
Skull and Glossbones

So, as you can see, the Hot Gray is a cooler stone, more like a stone gray, while Skull and Glossbones is a warmer, beigey gray. I love them both, but I thought the comparison was worth showing.

MAC Saint Germain Lipstick

MAC Saint Germain
$14.50

Last time I went to MAC I purchased the MAC Saint Germain Lipstick. I wanted to purchase before but it was sold out when I went, but this time they finally had it. The lipstick is a very popular color, it is a creamy pink. It has a creme finish, however, it does dry out my lips after a while. I have to keep reapplying lipgloss over it throughout the day. But I love this color lipstick and the color does stay on for hours. I find that this color works well for cool toned skin.

OPI Pirates of the Caribbean: Skull and Glossbones!

Ok, for everyone that doesn't know, the Pirates of the Caribbean collection has been released! Repeat: The collection if already in stores! I actually didn't even know until a few days ago, and the second I found out I had to have at least one. I've been thinking about which colors to buy, because I'm not a huge fan of pastels or pinks...but Skull and Glossbones was number 1 on my list, so here it is!

It's a grey, but an almost beige-y grey. It's questionable in the bottle, but I love it on. Looking at this picture, it's really really really close, if not exactly, like it is in person. Love it. This is 2 coats with a top coat os Seche Vite. You can see that its super nice and glossy. I just love it so much.

The coverage is great, even though this is a pastel it is not sheer at all. One thicker coat will do it, but I prefer two thinner coats because they dry faster, but you get the same coverage. The formula is also awesome, typical OPI, smooth and consistent.

I also wanted to get Mermaid's Tears, but none of the stores had it, it might have sold out straight away. Now I'm debating between getting Mermaid's Tears or Stranger Tides. Opinions? Also! Silver Shatter was not in stores, so, I'm assuming that it is on back order like the Black Shatter was. There is an ebay seller thats selling it for regular retail price plus shipping. So, if you don't want to wait for it to get into stores, you can buy it there.

Overall, I love this color and the formula and everything about it and I'm excited to get some more from the collection!

Until next time,

MAC Mineralized Skinfinish

Yesterday, I went to MAC in the search of a powder for conturing. I decided to buy a mineral powder, which is not meant for conturing but it does the same job. I bought the MAC Mineralized Skinfinish in Medium Dark. This is a mineral powder that you would use on top of your liquid foundation or just wear alone.  I bought a darker shade than my skin since I am going to use it for conturing. In MAC's foundation I am NW20, so that's pretty light. I am very happy I decided to buy this the Mineralized Skinfinish in Medium Dark, it is the perfect colors for me, it looks natural, not very dramatic. To put it on I used a large powder brush.

Milani Jewel FX Gold

This is one the polishes that I featured on on of my the girl on a budget posts....Milani Jewel FX Gold!

Awesome? Yes. So, this polish has a clear base with lots of large hexagonal gold sequins. Love it. This took 3 coats. Sometimes the sequins clump together and take a little longer to spread out, so for full coverage like I have here you have to make sure to move the sequins around. Also, make sure each coat dries (mostly) before applying another coat otherwise it will get clumpy. After the three coats of Gold, I did a coat of Seche Vite to smooth everything out. Some nails will end up smoother than others, depending on how flat you get the sequins to lay on the nail.

A word of warning to all, if you like to chip and pick at your nail polish, this will probably cause a problem for you. I'm a chipper by nature and after a few days I really couldn't help but start chipping all my nails, especially because glitter/ sequin polishes don't always lay smooth and they are so easy to chip off! So, just be weary of that if you want to try this polish. Also, it is pretty annoying to remove. Since it's not actual polish its difficult to remove with nail polish remover and the sequins get everywhere, so chipping might just be easier lol

Makeup Products in Shades that look good on everyone

Peach Blush

A peach color with a little shimmer looks good on any skin tone. Instead of going for a pink or frosty blush, which may look harsh on some skin tones, go the safe route with a peachy color.

Navy Eyeliner

A navy eyeliner will make your eyes look awake regardless of your skintone. Try a cream or pencil eyeliner.

True Red Lipstick

So many women are afraid to wear a red lip, however, this is a color that anyone can wear. However, when you use other red shades, watch out because they might not flatter you. Try to get a true red!

Bronzer

Any one can wear bronzer the trick is getting the right shade and applying it correctly. Obviously if you have light skin you  do not want to go over board with it or go for a dark shade. Never go more than 2 or 3 shades darker than your skin tone, this goes for everyone.

Essie Dive Bar and Manglaze Matte-Astrophe

Here is the first real swatch of Manglaze Matte-Astrophe.

This is Essie Dive Bar, really nice color, especially in the sunlight. It's a deep tealy color, it changes from blue to green and sometimes even purple depending on the light. It has really pretty shimmer that totally elevates the color in the light. This is either 2 or 3 coats, 2 coats is fine, but 3 is better. It's a pretty sheer first coat, but don't worry, another coat will fix it. This is actually my first Essie polish, believe it or not.

So, I decided to add Matte-Astrophe, just to see. A tip for everyone! Make sure that your nail polish is completely dry, if it's not the top coat will crackle. I mean it could be cool, but it just bothers the crap outta me. I swore my polish was dry, but lo and behold, freaking cracks! It's not that noticeable here, but in person it was veryyyy prominent. So definitely give yourself plenty of HOURS for your polish to dry.
Other than that, I love the top coat, it's really really cool. It works super quickly and takes only a few minutes to dry. I definitely think the idea of a matte top coat is great. You can make all your polishes matte with one polish! It pays for itself in no time if you like the matte look, like I do.

Bad Skin Habits

Skipping Suncreen
The best way to protect your skin from getting wrinkled, saggy or from dark spots is by using sunscrren. You should use a sunscreen with SPF 30. This will protect you from UVA and UVB rays.

Smoking
Smoking will also damage your skin and you will develop deeper wrinkles and blotchier skin.

Picking the Wrong Products
Oily skin should use a cleanser with salicylic acid and fight shine with an oil-free lotion.
Sensitive skin should use a creamy cleanser such as Cetaphil Gentle Skin. Try using fragrance-free moisturizers and sunscreens.
Dry Skin should use a moisturizer with trehalose, which will help prevent tightness. As for anti-aging  creams try one with retinol or with kinetin.

Ignoring the Neck and Chest
You should also take care of your neck and chest as you do your face because these areas are always exposed. This is why sometimes you see women with nice skin in their face then saggy skin on their neck. So moisturize and apply sunscreen.

Using Dirty Brushes
I know I have mentioned this before but you have to clean your brushes. If you don't wash them they will be filled with bacteria which will get on your skin. Wash them  gently at least once a month with shampoo or baby shampoo.

Geen mens is illegaal ! - Gent

Tips For Doing Your Nails

I obviously do my nails all the time, and I thought I'd share some tips for your doing your nails at home.

1. Never paint all the way to the cuticle
This is one of the most important tricks to doing your own nails, and most people don't know about it! Always leave some space between your cuticle and where the polish starts. It looks much cleaner and it makes removing the polish ten times easier!

2. Check your nail polishes!
Always make sure the polish you want to use isn't goopy. Sometimes polishes get very thick if they haven't been closed tightly, or just because they're old. These polishes are harder to spread and they get sticky and they take FOREVER to dry. So, always check your polishes before using them. If they look thicker or stickier than usual, you may have to get nail polish thinner or throw that sucker out.

3. Dry time
Make sure you leave enough time for your nails to dry! I can't even begin to count the number of times I've misjudged the dryness of my nails and smudged them. Always make sure your nails are dry, especially if you have more than 1 coat of polish on. The more coats, the longer the dry time. This is when top coats like Seche Vite work their miracles.

4. Don't stress!
It's frustrating when you do one hand perfectly, and the other hand not so much. It's easy to stress out and feel like you need to be ambidextrous when you paint your nails, but you don't. It just takes a little bit of practice. Set aside some time where you can do your nails and not have to worry about rushing out the door and you'll probably have an easier time.

5. The right tools make all the difference!
It's very true. Good cotton balls or cotton rounds will make a world of difference when removing polish. That and good nail polish remover will make your life so much easier! Also, good nail polishes and top coats (especially) won't chip as easily and your manicure will last longer!

New Urban Decay Primer Potion Packaging

I was really excited to see that Urban Decay introduced a new packaging for their Eyeshadow Primer Potion. This is great, because the old tube was really annoying. In the old tube you weren't able to reach the product all the way in the bottom.  The new package now comes is a squeeze tube, this will be much easier when trying to get the product at the bottom out. It will also help save some money, since you will be able to use most of the product in the tube.
They are offering all four shades of their primers in the new packaging. Each cost $19 for .37oz.
