Tricks to making small eyes appear bigger!

This photo is a great example!!!

I always get asked the question of how to make your small eyes appear bigger. If you have small eyes and always have trouble applying eye makeup, you are not alone many women have this problem. Small eyes can be a bit tricky because you can end up making them look smaller if you use the wrong colors or products.

Eyeshadow Tricks:

Light shades will help your eye look bigger, a shimmery champagne works great.
Apply a darker shade in the outer corner and in the crease. However, avoid dark shades because they will make your eyes appear smaller. Use a highlighter in the inner corners and under your brow bone, this will help attract the light.

Eyeliner Tricks:

Thick eyeliner or eyeliner that is dark will not help because it will actually close up your eye. Instead try soft colors and line the upper eyelid. You can line the water line with a white eyeliner or a beige color for darker skins. You can still use black eyeliner just don't do any harsh or thick lines. Also, if you want to apply liner to the bottom only apply it to the outer corner, do not line the entire line (line only about one third), and blend with an eyeshadow of the same color.   Lining your entire eye will make your eye look really small.

Mascara Tricks:

Eyelashes can really open up your eyes and make them look bigger. Therefore, curl your eyelashes at the root and at the ends, for about 5 seconds each. As soon as you curl it start applying the mascara, this way you won't loose the curl. I recommend applying the mascara at the ends of your lashes first instead of at the root because this will not weigh down the lashes. Then apply the mascara at the root while wiggling the wand side to side. By wiggling the brush you will make sure each lash is coated and will separate them as well.  Do not forget about the lashes in the inner and outer corner. I suggest using the tip of the wand for these areas . Also apply a thin coat to the bottom lashes, not too much!

Zoya Anja!

I took advantage of the Zoya buy one get two free promo and got myself three beautifulllll colors from their fall Smoke collection.

(indoor sunlight)

(outdoor direct sunlight)
Anja, one coat. This color is gorgeous! It's a burgundy, wine color that kind of leans toward berry in certain light. It's super dark and vampy and perfect for fall.

The formula was great, super smooth and fantastic coverage. Zoya definitely knows how to make a creme polish. They have officially perfected the formula. It literally only took one coat to be opaque, which is amazing for such a dark color. Make sure to have enough polish on the brush or you may end up with some lighter patches. This is the only one that I've tried so far, but I have really high hopes for the other two.

Quick Smokey Eye

You'll Need:

Creamy black eye pencil- get a kohl pencil because it's soft and will be easy to smudge.

Metallic or shimmery grey shadow- Try a medium grey, to avoid any raccoon looking eyes. A medium grey will be soft yet will still look smokey (you can always build the color).

Eyeshadow Brush- get a soft brush that will make it easy to blend

Black Mascara-  This will add a more dramatic effect and will give you stronger eyes.

Now let's begin:

Line your eyes- Line the top lid with a thick line, making sure to get as close to your lashes as possible. Draw the line in short strokes to give yourself some control. Next, line the bottom of your eyes, wiggle the pencil between the lashes. Now smudge both lines with a cotton swab.

Time for the eyeshadow- Start at the outer corner of your eye and then apply it across your lid in quick flicks. It should be darker the closer you get to your lashes.

Blend- Blend the eyeshadow a little above your crease with the eyeshadow already on your brush. Also sweep your brush softly under you bottom lashes to give it a more smokey effect.  To add more depth darken the color on your lids. Once you have achieved the color you want apply several coats of mascara to the top lashes, and lightly apply some mascara to your bottom lashes.

LA Girls Uninhibited

We've finally made it! The last one!

One coat of Uninhibited over one coat of Brucci Alexandra's "Hot" Gray. I have never seen a black glitter before and that's why I had to get this. It's a clear base with various sizes of black glitter. It's not really sparkly or anything, but thats not too unexpected since it is black. It looks pretty cool and reminds me of a speckled egg or something. I think it would look really cool over red or hot pink! And now that my nails are short (as you'll see a while from now, the nest few posts will have pictures that I took before I cut them off) I might try just the glitter and see how that looks.

Perfect Eyebrows

Eyebrows can dramatically change your appearance and having the perfect shape can really complement your look. However, finding that perfect shape for your face can be a bit of a challenge and may require  some trial and error.

Finding the perfect shape for your face:

Find out where your eyebrow starts by holding a pencil along side your nose and cross the eye at the tear duct up to the brow. To find the outer edge of your eyebrow hold the pencil from the edge of your nose to the outer corner of your eye. Next. find the highest point of the arch by holding a pencil in front of the iris.

Some tips to try:

Try using an eyebrow pencil to try different shapes to see which one looks better.
When taking out your eyebrows use a mirror that has magnification, to see each hair.
Also, remember to go slowly in order to avoid over plucking. After taking some hairs out look at yourself in a regular mirror from a distance  so you can see and compare both eyebrows.
Do not take out to much hair from above the eyebrow, just remove any stray hairs.

Before taking out any hair fill in your eyebrows to your desired shape. This will allow you to only remove stray hairs and will avoid any mistakes. After removing these hairs brush your eyebrow up with a small brush or toothbrush. Any hairs that are too long should be trimmed. However, do not brush then down and trim them because this will leave you with gaps in your eyebrow.

LA Girls Graphite and Zoya promo code

The last LA Girls Metal! And after this just one for LA Girls polish!!

(shade)

(sunlight)
Graphite, one coat. Yes, just one coat. This has a dark greyish base with silver shimmer/micro glitter. This is a very common color, I feel like I've recently seen loads of colors that look exactly like this. Anyway, it does look metallic-ish in the shade and foily in the sunlight. It's really really nice in the sunlight.

This had the best formula out of all the Metals. It was thicker like Millennium, but was completely opaque in one coat. Totally impressed with this one since the others were definitely lacking. Just because of the formula, this is probably my favorite out of all of them. Really, they all should have had the same formulation and if they did, the whole collection would have been an A+ for me.

Also, just wanted to tell you all about Zoya's free shipping promo, if you haven't already heard, just use the code SWEEP2 at checkout :)

Makeup tips for pale/fair skin

Having fair skin can be a little tricky to deal with. However, once you get the right products and colors, you will look great.

Pale skin is very transparent around your areas like your eyes, therefore you may able to see little blood vessels.
Foundation can be a bit of a challenge when trying to find your best match because most brands don't have very light foundations. If you wear a foundation that is too dark it may end up looking orange  or like you are wearing a mask. Therefore, you may find it easier to find a tinted moisturizer, one with a yellow based would be great because it will minimize the red in your skin. Also try to get one that contains SPF because the lighter your skin, the more prone to aging and wrinkling it is.

For concealer, use a yellow based one on your dark circles in order to minimize the redness caused by the little blood vessels.

Blush should not be too bright because it will not complement your skin. Instead try pink and apricot blushes. They will look natural and will make your skin look delicate and soft.

For your eyes try shimmer eyeshadows in natural colors to add warmth to your face for a daytime look. Try cool tones like grey, navy, lavender also a soft smokey eye will look great on your skin.

You can have fun with pink and red lipsticks because they look great on fair skin. For a more natural look try light pinks and nudes.

Inspired by the film’s namesake lively and colorful characters, OPI launches twelve limited-edition Nail Lacquers for Holiday 2011. “OPI is so excited to work with Disney to celebrate this long-awaited movie release,” said Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, OPI Executive VP & Artistic Director.  “Not only do The Muppets characters inspire fun, bright and joyful colors, the fashionable Miss Piggy lends her name to three high-shine pink-based hues, ranging from bold red flecked with silver to a multi-dimensional strawberry shade.”
Lacquer packed with micas and sparkle gives a 3-dimensional textured look that makes nails look like jewelry. With shades ranging from textured glitters in rainbow, red, green and blue to softer shimmers in copper and bronze metallic hues, these twelve colors provide the perfect accessory for the holiday season.
This limited edition promotion will be available beginning November 2011 at Professional Salons, including Beauty Brands, Beauty First, Chatters, Dillard’s, JCPenney, Pure Beauty, Regis, Trade Secret, and ULTA, for  $8.50 ($10.95 CAN) suggested retail for each Nail Lacquer.

I think this is a very fun collection, I love Disney and the Muppets and I think OPI captured the theme really well. The Muppets are fun and this collection is definitely fun. I'm pretty excited about the glitters, my passion for glitter just keeps growing every day. I wonder if they are going to be their awesome full coverage glitters like they did for Burlesque and Alice in Wonderland, or if they're going to be layering glitters. I'm not so sure about all the berry looking colors, but I guess we'll just have to wait for this collection to come out so we can see it in person!

LA Girls Millennium

This is one of the polishes that has a better formula.

Millennium, two coats. This is a purple base with silver glitter/ shimmer. It's really pretty and shiny in the sunlight, but all of these Metals polishes are pretty dull in the shade. Enlarge the picture above to really see how awesome this looks in the sun.

Millennium definitely has one of the better formulas. It was much thicker and opaque in one coat, but a little light so I added another coat. I'm not sure why the first two polishes I tried had thin, sheer formulas and this one was thicker. In theory they should all be the same. If they all had this formulation they would be fantastic.

Concealer 101

Many people have trouble choosing the right concealer for their needs. You have to keep in mind that there are many different types of concealers, depending on what it is you want to cover.

Stick

The stick foundation is best for normal to dry skin that requires medium coverage. However, they tend to slide around on blemishes, making the problem more obvious. This should be used under the eye area where you have few oil glands .

Wand

This concealer has the sheerest coverage and can be used anywhere on the face without making it obvious. However, they are not for people who need a lot of coverage. These are good for those with minimal dark circles or for teenagers who just need to cover a few marks. They are very easy to blend onto the skin.

Pencil

The pencil come in different thicknesses just like eyeliners. They are great to cover precise spots and can be used to cover blemishes, broken capillaries and around the lip line.

Tube

Concealers that come in tubes offer different coverage, however like foundations you can build it up. They also vary in thickness and may or may not be oil free. They can be used under the eye, face, and for blemishes. However be careful around the lines and any wrinkles because they tend to crease bringing more attention to the problem.

Pot

These also vary in thickness but almost all offer full coverage. Ones that have a drier texture are ideal for those with discolored skin and blemishes because they stick to the skin. You have to be careful of not applying too many layers and always blend very well.

Correctors

You may also find yourself wondering what these green, yellow, pink, orange and purple concealers are for. Well these each have a purpose and should not be used alone. They are to be used under foundation and are meant to counteract unwanted colors in the skin that even show up after using a concealer. These are only to be used on the problem area not anywhere else. If you know anything of have heard of the color theory then this is the same idea. For example for red skin, rosacea, blemishes and acne you would need a green skin corrector because this will eliminate the red. Yellow is great for dark circles and bruises because it will counteract the purple. Purple or lavender correctors will normalize a sallow face by minimizing the yellow undertones. Orange or peach cancel any blue, which work to cover some dark circles and to brighten complexions

LA Girls Antique Gold

Still truckin' on with this LA Girls stuff, this is the next Metal shade.

Antique Gold, three coats. I loved this because its not just a regular gold, which always looks awkward on my skin tone. It definitely lives up to its name and it very antique looking. It's a dark base with lots of the gold shimmer/ micro glitter and even has some slighlty holo pieces that flash green and orange that you can see if you enlarge the first picture.

The formula is pretty much identical to Metallic Olive. It's much more sheer than it should be, but what can you do. Other than that, it's a pretty good formula, no big negatives.

Fall/Winter 2011 Makeup Trends To TRY!!

You should not be afraid to try new makeup looks because at the end if anything goes wrong you can just remove it. This is the best way to practice and also a way to explore new colors and decide which ones work best for you.

'Au Naturel' - Natural look

Try to get a perfect skin by using concealer and foundation. Then apply a natural blush and mascara and also line your waterline with white liner.

Earth Tones

This season earth and warm toned colors are being used. So try browns, golds and neutral colors. Just be careful to get the color that best suits you. Apply peach toned blush that matches your skin. Keep lips nude or natural colors.

Dark and dramatic

Shimmery darks such as navys, blacks and grey hues are also very popular. Lips should be nude, brick or glam red. This look is definitely for people who love dramatic makeup.

LA Girls Metallic Olive

The next four polishes that I got are from the Metal collection, these are obviously supposed to be metallic. I was super excited to try this one.

Metallic Olive, three coats. So it's not really metallic and it's not really olive, but I'm totally digging the color. This has a dark base and loads of the green micro glitter that does flash a somewhat olive color. It's a dark forest green that's totally in for this fall and it matches my eyes :)

The formula was very nice and smooth but pretty sheer and needed at least three coats to be completely opaque. I think the sheerness came from the thinness of the polish, I had mixed formulas with these Metals, some where thick and opaque with one coat and others needed three. Other than that I really like this polish and even though it is older, it's totally on trend for this fall.

MAC Style Driven Makeup Collection for Fall 2011

The MAC Style Driven Collection will include colorful pro longwear products. These products are meant to last about 15 hours, and include great coverage and pigment. This is a very cool line because MAC's pro longwear products now are missing some color and variety.

Pro Longwear Lipcreme

Lip color that will last hours with a creamy texture that will not dry out your lips. The colors vary from neutral to bold.

Eyeshadows

Pro Longwear Lipglass

I can't wait to try these because it is very hard to get a lipgloss that will not wear off and not dry out your lip. I will definitely be trying the pinks and neutral colors because these are the colors are normally wear and are even harder to find with long lasting power since they are light colors.

Pro Longwear Lip Pencil
